Monument for Empathy
Masterarbeit von Fiona Belousz, 2021
How do we perceive and memorize space? Our cognitive learning is closely connected to it. By feeling the surrounding through touching, seeing, smelling, moving, and hearing, our experiences are memorized unconsciously with event segmentation. Every element of space plays a significant role. Time gets frozen and unfrozen. Elements become monuments. Monuments are spaces that remind and remember, consisting of many layers which become fragments of the structure itself. Monuments are motionless but keep expanding. Learning how materials memorize is an essential part. Time plays an important factor. Material Memory has different durations. Memory is fragile and not constant. Spatial memory unfolds through mental perception and on a physical level. Can materials embody emotions? Can we build a Monument for Empathy?
